About: Randall Stuart
Randall Stuart’s work as a theatre artist & stage director spans four decades, and includes productions at regional theaters, opera companies, summer festivals, as well as the development of new plays. As a visiting teaching artist, he has lectured and directed in a variety of college, university & professional theater training programs. As an author and playwright, Randall has been commissioned to create stage adaptations of classical material. As both a director and an actor, Randall's work has been seen on the stages of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, American Conservatory Theater, Berkeley Rep, Seattle Rep, Portland Rep, A Contemporary Theater, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Encore Theater Company, and Artists Repertory Theatre among others. Randall trained at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco (1974-79), returning to A.C.T. intermittently in the following three decades as an instructor & director in the Advanced Training Program, and most recently has taught for the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre.
In 2002, Randall created the artistic umbrella of Upon These Boards and was awarded the 2003 Bay Area Critics Circle Award for the "Worldwide Theatrical Peace Event" Lysistrata Project, in what was the largest staged rendition of the play Lysistrata by Aristophanes worldwide, and performed at Berkeley Repertory Theatre for two sold-out performances. After a hiatus of ten years [2009-2019] during which he founded and directed an arts & humanities organization, Randall has returned to the work of Upon These Boards, collaborating with artists and authors to create intriguing new projects, including "Backstage Left", "Thenceforth", and "Wise Fools".
As a global citizen Randall has involved himself in notable community Human Health benefits and World Peace demonstrations. Based in the Pacific Northwest, he has deep personal and professional roots in San Francisco and New York, and feels fortunate to have lived a life upon the boards.
