about: Upon These Boards
Randall Stuart created the artistic producing platform Upon These Boards in 2002 in the San Francisco Bay Area to act as a creative environment for a variety of theatrical new works, workshops, symposia, and literary salons. An ensemble of actors, writers, directors, designers worked together to offer a palette of unique happenings. Within a year, Upon These Boards was awarded the 2003 Bay Area Critics Circle Award for the "Worldwide Theatrical Peace Event" Lysistrata Project, in what was the largest rendition of Aristophanes' Lysistrata - offered worldwide, to protest the War of 2003 - was performed at Berkeley Repertory Theatre for two sold-out performances.
This was followed by a series of large-scale presentations, focused on world peace & ecology, which played as special offerings at Berkeley Rep and the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley, California: including the epic event: The Inkwell Communiques. The plays Fools Fall and A Lovely Day were workshopped and fully staged at local universities. A series of symposia and salons included a celebrated offering of T.S. Eliot's The Four Quartets featuring actors Ray Reinhardt, Naomi Newman, Lorri Holt, and Randall Stuart.
After a hiatus of ten years, during which Mr. Stuart founded an arts & humanities organization, he returns to Upon These Boards working with fellow artists and authors to create a series of intriguing new projects. The work commences in the Pacific Northwest, Bay Area, and New York. Stay tuned for: Backstage Left and The Resplendent West.
